DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Color

When deciding how we wanted to present or business, we wanted to create an image that would stand out from our competitors and make us memorable. After completing research on what colors would represent us best, we decided our main color should be a shade of orange. “Orange, a blend of red and yellow, naturally lends itself to food as another appetizing color. Orange has been a trendy color for some time now, so be aware of that when using it—its popularity could either work for or against your product depending on its context and intent” (Jenn and David)

Our bright orange color is vibrant and lively which directly aligns with the experience that we want our users to have while using our application and their dining experience. We chose to match the orange color with a light blue because of their complementary-color relationship. The light blue color is airy and fresh, which makes our users feel calm when navigating through our application. White, gray, and black were also used to compliment our two main colors to keep the interface looking clean and appealing. Many of our competitors incorporate the color red in their application, but to stand out we chose a different and favorable warm color to use as our primary color in our design. Overall, our design methodology matches the core values of our company.

Typography

Additionally, we wanted to use a clean and modern font to portray our brand. We felt that using the regular and bold versions of Monsterat would provide contrast while keeping the fonts consistent. “Originally designed by Julieta Ulanovsky, a designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina the Montserrat typeface is based upon the old posters and signs in the city of Buenos Aires and especially the neighbourhood of Montserrat. Julieta wanted to design a typeface that rescued the beauty of urban typography from the first half of the twentieth century” (Pubtechgator).

Logo

For our logo we used the Monsterrat font and our main color of orange. The logo combines the elements of a navigation with a fork, the ultimate symbol of dining. The arrow is significant because it signifies to users that there is an endless amount of restaurant and food options when using Locate.
